Careful assessment of N95 respiratory decontamination through ultraviolet germicidal irradiation is urged to ensure adequate fit and continued protection because different models of N95 respirators were highly variable in passing a fit test after this treatment. Some models did not pass the baseline fit test, while others were able to withstand multiple or even twenty repeat treatments.

Clinicians are reminded to actively work against anchoring bias during the pandemic. A septic 94 year-old male admitted with fever, leukocytosis, tachypnea, tachycardia, hypoxia, and infiltrates on chest X-ray was found to have a gram-negative community acquired pneumonia. However, antibiotics were not started for over 12 hours after admission because staff at all levels were focused on ruling out COVID-19.
